Submissions Guidelines and Call for Papers
Submissions for the Winter 2025 issue are currently open. Please see below for submission guidelines. Submissions will close November 30 at 11:59 PM CT.
Submissions
Articles and papers may be submitted either for our seasonal publication or for our continuously published online publication. All submissions should be emailed to chicagojournalfp@gmail.com.
Guidelines for Journal Submissions
Content
- Content pertaining to the period from 1945 to the present is preferred.
- Content that reflects on historical, economic, political, etc. developments within nations other than the United States that bear relevance to policy issues, explores relationships between the United States and other nation(s), analyzes American foreign policy concerns, or analyzes developments in international organizations and structures, is preferred.
- If appropriate, one or more legally usable images, maps, or figures should be attached to all submissions. Legally usable media would include those in the public domain, available under a Creative Commons license, or includable as fair use.
Format
- Print journal submissions should run at an approximate maximum of 15 double-spaced, 12-point Times New Roman, regular margin pages (not including bibliography), though this limit is flexible and dependent on the volume of pieces received for any particular journal.
- All citations should be provided in the Chicago style, with running footnotes and a separate bibliography listing all pieces cited. (An online version of the Chicago Manual of Style can be found here, and is also available to UChicago undergraduates through the library catalog.)
- Word Documents (.doc/.docx) are strongly preferred.
Guidelines for Digital Submissions
Content
- Content should pertain to more recent events of the past 5-10 years, and should follow the same content guidelines as listed above for print submissions (i.e. should pertain to comparative politics, foreign policy, or international affairs, broadly construed).
- All citations should be provided in the Chicago style, with running footnotes and a separate bibliography listing all pieces cited.
- If appropriate, one or more legally usable images, maps, or figures should be attached to all submissions. Legally usable media includes all media in the public domain, available under a Creative Commons license, or includable as fair use.
Format
- Submissions should run between 750-2500 words (not including bibliography). Submissions should not exceed the limit for the biannual journal.
- Microsoft Word Documents (.doc/.docx) are strongly preferred.
